How did mangoDigital come into existence?

Lakshaya · 2 min read · Jun 2026

I didn't start mangoDigital myself. My employer made me do it by force. For two good years I worked with Neil Patel and the company knew I could do better, so they encouraged me to do so. Thanks Neil!

mangoDigital-birth

I started blogging in my second year of engineering. My first project- DTU’s Cloud2Shout, and all the blogging knowledge came from Neil Patel.

Reading his blogs everyday (Quick Sprout) made me look upto him and the thought in my mind- I’d either never do a job or if I do, it’d be in Neil Patel’s company. Damn! That dream came true.

But, why mango then?

Well, I didn't start my company by choice. My employer made me do it!

Everything seemed to be going smooth at Neil Patel Digital, and eventually the quantity of work dropped to the grounds.

I was without any work or clients for 3 months, asking my managers to assign something every single day. Somewhere, I knew what could have been coming.

The company was losing clients left and right (various reasons, we were told). And then, the call came to me, 9:45 in the morning, right when I was about to login for the day- HR called me and broke the news.

I was fired on a Wednesday morning (I love Wednesdays, not just for this reason).

The first reaction for me was to console the HR- of course, she didn’t want to fire me. Instead, she was the person who hired me after a chase of 2 months and welcomed me with warmth, and promoted me within the six months of my employment- so, she was in guilt, trying to pacify, and the best I could say- “no worries “Name,” it’s okay. When will it be my last day?”

She said- 24th May and I was okay with it.

After the call, for a moment I thought to myself, something has happened, something I had never imagined, and this would usually make people cry, should I cry?

(With car EMI and house rent, it kinda made sense to shed a tear), but the immediate next thought- Nah!

Let’s use this freedom-

  • I picked up my phone and called my friends Priyanka and Yash Kanodia.
  • Priyanka had a guest posting gig. Kanodia had scripts that needed writing.
  • Within two hours of being fired, 75% of next month's salary was sorted.
  • Then I went to the gym on a Wednesday afternoon, came back, took a shower, and got to the fresh work I just got!

In a couple of weeks, I was offered a job by another agency, at the same package (of course, they knew I was fired, so why give a hike, right?). Well, I turned it down and reminded myself of why I started a job in the first place-

  • To learn content writing at a corporate level
  • To learn how companies function
  • To work in Neil Patel’s company (the only place I wanted to work at, if I ever did a job).

And guess what- I was way past all the goals and still not getting out. So, luck, god, universe, quantum, whatever kicked me out and told me to get back to what I always wanted to do- Solve problems, run a business, and invent!

And I thank the day and my stars. Today, with mangoDigital I have worked with clients I once only read about. I still have problems — just better ones.

Oh, btw WEDNESDAYS are my markers for freedom- if you can do whatever you want on a Wednesday afternoon, in my opinion you are fortunate and free!
