I called 100 local businesses
Cold calling is one of the quickest, most effective, and cost friendly modes of selling. I made 100 cold calls which took me a couple of weeks and as a result- I had regular appointment bookings, 2 closed deals, and 5 prospects in pipeline.
Cold calling is one of the quickest, most effective, and cost friendly modes of selling. I made 100 cold calls which took me a couple of weeks and as a result- I had regular appointment bookings, 2 closed deals, and 5 prospects in pipeline.
So, I made 100 cold calls over the last 2 weeks and God bless! I’m glad.
85 people picked up. 10 hung up straight to my face (the first 4 times I judged myself so hard- like what in the world are you doing?). Then 1 closed. 2 got into the pipeline. And 3 hot meetings are scheduled for this week.
I guess- not too bad for someone who has never done this before and was dreading picking up the 500KG Samsung in my hand.
Here’s what actually happened-
Instead of focusing on what I didn’t have (clients, a big budget for ads, or the confidence to call random people), I started focusing on what I had- the skill of SEO, 12 years of SEO and writing experience, 12 years of website development and optimisation experience, and empathy for anyone who is struggling to attract customers.
And then, I put all of that in my matcha bowl, added some warm conversations, and whisked the mix with an intention to help the people I was calling- “not to sell them, but to help them.”
And it worked- for the most part.
For the remainder, I’m learning and evolving.
For example, I found out that clinics are frustrated after dealing with multiple SEO agencies that promised them the world and then disappeared after enjoying the retainer for 3 months- which is why, it’s better to say
“I’m a local SEO expert that helps dermatology clinics attract more customers organically,”
instead of saying
“I’m Lakshaya Baliyan, the founder of mangoDigital” (sounds so cocky now).
The point is- I had a problem- working with B2B companies and enterprise clients usually means long sales and payment cycles.
I wanted to create a simple regular income flow while we keep building our ultimate product (honestly, I’m hyped to the sky), and this was the first thing that came to my mind and I acted upon- and it’s working!
PS: Great realisation- the phone wasn’t 500KGs, my fear was.
